Estimating Your Wallpaper Requirements

The design and pattern repeat on your chosen wallpaper will affect the amount of each roll that you can use, and therefore the number of rolls required.  The larger the repeat of the pattern, the more rolls you will require as the wastage will be greater.  You will also waste a certain amount of paper when papering around doors, which can leave you with unusable narrow strips of paper.  The standard size of a roll of wallpaper in the UK is 20.5 inches wide x 11 yards (0.52m x 10.05m) long.  American wallpapers are generally about twice as wide, while some European wallpapers are slightly narrower.  Unless you are using a paper which you will paint, ensure that all the rolls you buy are from the same ‘batch’ or ‘lot’ to ensure that the colour matches.
